Sh2-264 - The Alien Face Nebula
Super Nova Remnant in Orion
This image covers a field of  10.5 degrees x 15.7 degrees.
I believe that this is the first ever CCD image of this huge object.  This CCD image was taken with an SBIG ST8E camera and a 50 mm Nikkor camera lens at f/4.  It is the combination of  9, 10-minute exposures with an H-a filter.  Image acquisition and processing were done with Maxim and Photoshop.

The two stars towards the bottom of the image are the "shoulders" of Orion, Betelgeuse and Bellatrix.  Betelguese looks a bit strange-it is so bright it created a reflection in the H-a filter even though it has anti-reflective coatings.

I have nick-named this the Alien Face Nebula because if you look at it sideways it looks like an alien face from a sci-fi movie.
